GCAL has extensive experience delivering public projects across Ireland, working with local authorities, government bodies and public organisations to create buildings that are practical, welcoming and designed to serve their communities for generations. Their public work spans libraries, schools, healthcare facilities, civic buildings and public realm projects, often combining new design with the careful reuse of existing structures.
As lead architects on the Castleblayney Library & Market Square Regeneration (supported by Craftstudo) we transformed the historic Hope Castle Gate Lodge into a new library and community facility while regenerating the surrounding Market Square. The project won Public Building of the Year at the 2024 Building & Architect of the Year Awards and was also awarded second place in the RIAI Public Choice Awards.
Other public projects include Cavan County Museum, Belturbet Library; Cootehill Library, Kells Courthouse and Public Realm, Flower Hill Facade Scheme. We have also carried out multiple phases of works at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan; St Joseph's Hospital, Trim and St Brigid's Hospital, Ardee. Projects have also been completed in Dundalk, Cavan and Our Lady of Lourdes, Drogheda Hospitals. GCAL has completed projects on over 100 school buildings.
